KUNDUZ: UN-supported TV programme aired

KABUL - United Nations-supported weekly TV programme, Kunduz at a Glance is currently aired on local TV station Kunduz Independent Khawar. The 6-episode weekly programme examines the issues of good governance, women participation in political affairs, development, peace and reconciliation, protection of civilians, child rights protection and promotion, and children in armed conflicts.

Broadcast on Thursdays, the programme aimed at raising public awareness on the issues and highlighting the work of the UN.

The first week episode was aired on 6 December 2013 and discussed good governance. It featured guest speakers from Kunduz governor’s office, Provincial Council, Civil Service Commission, and a representative from the civil society.

During the first episode taping, Ms. Marzai Rustami, a civil society activist said that the characteristics of good governance are transparency, existing and enforcement of law, commitment of the government and citizens on existed law implementation.

“It is not only the responsibility of the government to enforce the law, but the people also should cooperate with their government on law enforcement,” said Ms. Rustami.

The last episode of the programme will air on 10 January 2013 and will discuss women participation in political affairs. The audio from the 6 episodes will also air on 3 local radio stations in the region.
