  • 16 Jul 2015 - KABUL - On behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I wish all Afghans Eid Mubarak. As Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr after a month of fasting and worship, I hope that families around Afghanistan will be able to come together in peace, in an environment free of fear and violence.
  • 15 Jul 2015 - NEW YORK - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned, in the strongest terms, the recent attacks in Afghanistan that killed and injured more than 100 civilians, including women and children. The attacks in Khost and Baghlan Provinces and Kabul city occurred near spaces of public assembly, including a bazaar as well as mosque where civilians had gathered to pray.
  • 14 Jul 2015 - KABUL - On behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I condemn the attack targeting civilians gathered for Iftar at the Grand Mosque in Pul-e-Khomri, Baghlan province. The attack wounded more than 40 civilians, with many in critical condition An improvised explosive device planted at the mosque detonated during an Iftar dinner for 500 people. The government had arranged the event to distribute oil and rice to the poorest families of the city.  
  • 13 Jul 2015 - KABUL - On behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I condemn, in the strongest terms, yesterday’s suicide attack in Khost Matun city, Khost province, that killed 27 civilians and injured at least 10 others. Among those killed were three women and 12 children. The attack also killed six members of the Afghan security forces.
  • 11 Jul 2015 - NEW YORK - The members of the Security Council welcomed the direct talks held on 7 July in Muree, Pakistan, between the Government of Afghanistan and Taliban representatives, as a step towards peace and reconciliation. The members of the Security council encouraged the parties in the talks to continue building on these efforts through an inclusive, Afghan-led and Afghan-owned dialogue as laid forth in the 20 July 2010 Kabul Conference Communiqué.
