On 27 September, a suicide attacker detonated an improvised explosive device during a volleyball game, killing at least 17 civilians, including 15 children and injuring at least 60 others, the majority children.

The attack was carried out on a crowded street, during rush hour and in front of a private hospital causing extensive damage to homes and property. It targeted a convoy from the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission, killing three contractors.
