  • 13 Jul 2015 - KABUL - On behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I condemn, in the strongest terms, yesterday’s suicide attack in Khost Matun city, Khost province, that killed 27 civilians and injured at least 10 others. Among those killed were three women and 12 children. The attack also killed six members of the Afghan security forces.
  • 11 Jul 2015 - NEW YORK - The members of the Security Council welcomed the direct talks held on 7 July in Muree, Pakistan, between the Government of Afghanistan and Taliban representatives, as a step towards peace and reconciliation. The members of the Security council encouraged the parties in the talks to continue building on these efforts through an inclusive, Afghan-led and Afghan-owned dialogue as laid forth in the 20 July 2010 Kabul Conference Communiqué. 
  • 08 Jul 2015 - KABUL - The head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Nicholas Haysom, welcomed the direct talks held yesterday between Afghan Government and Taliban representatives in Islamabad, Pakistan, and urged the parties to take the next steps towards a reconciliation and peace process.
  • 08 Jul 2015 - NEW YORK - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the direct talks held yesterday between Afghan Government and Taliban representatives in Pakistan. He reiterated his support for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, and expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the parties and the constructive role of the host, Pakistan.
  • 07 Jul 2015 - KABUL - The top United Nations envoy in Afghanistan, Nicholas Haysom, met today in Kabul with leading civil society activists and journalists to discuss recent threats against journalists and civil activists posted on social networks of external armed groups.
