NANGARHAR: Workshop promotes dialogue for resolution of local conflicts

NANGARHAR - At a workshop hosted last week by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in the eastern regional hub of Jalalabad, officials and religious leaders from the country’s four eastern provinces exchanged their views and experiences in support of promoting dialogue for resolution of local conflicts.

The three-day workshop ‘Reflecting on Peace and Mediation’ provided a forum for 30 participants, which also included representatives from the civil society and local dispute-resolution committees, from Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan and Kunar provinces.

The workshop provided a forum for the participants to interact, share their experiences and learn from each other, helping the participants to develop basic conflict resolution techniques and knowledge that would assist them in real situations in their communities.

Muhamad Rozi, the chairperson of the dispute resolution committee in Kunar province, said such workshops should have been extended to remote areas as well, as many disputes arise in rural areas “more than urban centres.”
