BADAKSHAN: Journalists complain of lack of cooperation from officials

BADAKSHAN - Journalists in Afghanistan’s north-eastern province of Badakhshan have complained about lack of cooperation from the province’s government officials.

Speaking at a gathering, Rezwanullah Nezami of a local radio station in Baharak district said the government officials wouldn’t invite journalists to cover their meetings or other important events.

Another speaker, journalist Sayed Noor Agha Noori from Kishem district said district officials would not provide any news to journalists.

Echoing the views of Mr. Nezami and Mr. Noori, the head of Badakhshan Journalists Union, Abdul Basir Hagjoo, urged local officials to honour media rights.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with journalists, Deputy Provincial Governor Dr. Gul Muhammad Bedar promised to convince local administrations to provide information to the media.

Afghanistan is marking the World Press Freedom Day on 3 May.
