KANDAHAR: Officials pledge to expedite peace process

KANDAHAR - The head of secretariat of the High Peace Council and Advisor Minister, Mohammad Stanikzai, along with a high-ranking delegation visited Kandahar province where they met with the Kandahar Governor and other officials to discuss progress in the peace process.

“The purpose of our visit is to discuss plans to provide assistance to those who reconciled and will reconcile in Kandahar province,” said Mr. Stanikzai.

Kandahar Governor Toryalai Wesa, during his meeting with Mr. Stanikzai, said that the security situation had significantly improved in Kandahar province and now was the best time to call upon insurgents to join the peace process and the Government should exploit this opportunity.

“Kandahar provincial administration together with the Provincial Committee had significant achievements. However, when it comes to implementing projects, we need support from the High Peace Council in Kabul,” added Mr. Wesa.

He said that most of the insurgent recruits were youth and they would shun insuergency if provided with job opportunities. "We should implement vocational training for these youth," Wesa added.
