BALKH - The United Nations Office of Drug and Crime (UNODC) and Balkh provincial counter-narcotics department marked 26 June, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in a large gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif on Wednesday. Balkh is among Afghanistan’s few provinces that are close to eliminating cultivation of puppy and production of drugs in its territory.

In his message on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said development in Afghanistan is being hindered by the highest rates of opiate prevalence in the world.
