Afghans living in “midst of conflict”

NEW YORK - The everyday life of Afghan people living in the midst of conflict is the focus of a new photography exhibition currently on display at the United Nations Visitors Lobby in New York.

“Afghanistan: Everyday in the midst of conflict” was organized by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The photos on display were taken by UNAMA photographers Eric Kanalstein and Fardin Waezi.

Radmilla Suleymanova caught up with Eric Kanalstein at the opening in New York. He has been covering Afghanistan since 2009. Kanalstein says that security and creating work that is original are two of the main challenges he faces photographing one of the most dangerous and most reported places on Earth.
