‘Peace Poetry’ event attracts hundreds in Jalalabad

NANGARHAR - About 300 boys and girls today participated in Peace Poetry, an event organized by Nangarhar's Youth Sub Directorate in collaboration with the Youth Council and Youth Federation, to celebrate International Day of Peace.

A 10th grade student, Sahar Mawlawizada, said that he came with special enthusiasm to participate in the event.

About a dozen boys and girls read their poems reflecting the significance of peace and the need for reconciliation in the country. They condemned conflict and wished for peace and reconciliation in the country.

Nuragha Zwak, Head of Sub Directorate of Youth said to UNAMA that people are thirsty for peace. "We are doing our best to organize peace events as much as possible to explain the significance of peace and to encourage people, especially youth, to work for peace," he said.

Several other peace building events will also be launched in coming days, including city cleaning, peace symposium, drawing competition, and sports activities to promote teamwork and cooperation among young women and men, such as football, volleyball and cricket.
