UNAMA Central Region strengthening expertise of attorneys in the north

KABUL - Leading attorneys from northern provinces today gathered in the capital of Afghanistan for a three-day training session organized by the University of Kabul and the United Nations to more effectively implement the law in their provinces.

The training, organized by UNAMA’s Rule of Law Central Regional Office in cooperation with the Independent National Legal Training Centre (INLTC) at University of Kabul, will focus on evidence resources, crime elements and investigation methods.

“The training is participatory. In addition to lectures, the participants will learn from discussions and exchange of information based on their practical experiences,” said one of the trainers, Nazir Ahmad Nisar.

The 30 participants are from Panjshir, Kapisa and Parwan provinces, and include heads of the provincial and staff the Attorney General’s Office.

One of the participants from Panjshir, Mohibullah Kohistani, said that the training will be a good reminder and “enable us to be more effective in our practical work.”

Another participant and head of judiciary in Kapisa, Abdul Majeed Laiq, said that “professionally, I have doubts about some of the legal material, but hopefully this training will help me understand the legal material more in-depth and remove those doubts.”

Strengthening rule of law is one of the five priorities this year for the UN in Afghanistan, including dialogue and peace; promotion and protection of human rights; maternal and newborn health; and sustainable livelihoods.
