Wheat production meets its target
BALKH - The head of the provincial agriculture department, Kateb Shams, said on Tuesday that according to the recent survey on production of wheat crops, there is a 100 per cent success in the rain-fed harvest and 70 per cent in irrigated.
On-time distribution of improved seeds as wells as 277 mm rainfall and 540 mm snowfall have triggered this success this year, he said.
Wheat harvest was badly affected last year in Balkh province due to lack of timely rainfall and caused big economic problems to farmers. Mr Shams added that the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated the budget of 47 million Afghanis to buy improved seeds to support Afghan farmers this year.
