5,000 kg of hashish set on fire

PAKTYA - Security officials set on fire huge quantity of hashish in the Paktya province, authorities said on Tuesday.

About 5,000 kilograms of hashish including considerable amount of heroin and alcoholic drinks – that were seized over the past one year by security agencies during operations in various parts of the province – were set ablaze, Zalmai Oryakhail, the provincial police chief said.

The head of the provincial Counter-Narcotics Department, Hafizullah Ahmadzai said the seized amount was supposed to be smuggled to the provinces inside the country or to the neighbouring countries.

Since five years, hashish and opium cultivation level has come to zero in Paktya province with assistance of community elders, clerics, security departments and common people, Dr Ahmadzai added.
