NANGARHAR: Rehabilitation of water canals begins

NANGARHAR - A local development shura, supported by the local Government departments and the UN Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT), started rehabilitation work of two water canals in Zair Jumat area in Jalalabad city yesterday.

Of the total cost of US$ 70,000 required to complete the rehabilitation, the UN agency is providing US$ 59,000 while the remaining funding will be covered by the local community.

According to engineer Muhamad Tahir Wafa, a project supervisor with UN-HABITAT, the rehabilitation of about 2,500 metres long canals on both sides of a road will be completed in six months.

Jalalabad Municipality and Nangarhar’s Urban Development Department have extended their full support to the project.

Speaking at a ceremony organized to start the work, Engineer Aminullah, the deputy head of the Urban Development Department, expressed his gratitude to the UN-HABITAT and its partners for implementing the project.
