HELMAND: Officials vow to protect women’s rights

KANDAHAR – Local officials of Helmand Province vowed to protect the rights of women, even though, there are less number of cases of violence against women registered in Helmand province.

Speaking at a meeting attended by members of the Helmand Provincial Council, Government officials and women activists, the Chief of Staff of the Helmand Governor’s office, Lal Mohammad, said that the Department of Women’s Affairs had created job opportunities for “hundreds of women” and were providing vocational training to women in order to build their capacity to stand on their own feet.

“As compared to the other provinces of the country, there are less number of cases of violence against women in Helmand province. We strongly condemn those incidents of violence against women in other parts of the country and demand punishment for the perpetrators of these crimes,” said Mr. Mohammad.

A female member of the Provincial Council, Razia Baloch said that the Council was committed to fight for the rights of women.
