KANDAHAR: Ghorak residents complain about Taliban cutting off supply lines

KANDAHAR – Residents of Ghorak district of Kandahar province claimed that the Taliban have cut off their supply lines in Ghorak district, resulting in several problems for the local population.

According to the locals, Ghorak district was “liberated” seven months ago by the Afghan forces from the Taliban “who controlled Ghorak for six years”, however, the main highways are still closed by the Taliban.

The locals made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Kandahar which visited the district in order to assess the situation on the ground.

Speaking to the Kandahar Radio and TV, the administrative officer of the Kandahar Police Headquarters, Ghulam Jailani Katawazi confessed that the local residents of Ghorak are faced with a number of problems due to closure of roads by the Taliban.

However, the Afghan forces are committed to reopen these roads as soon as possible, Mr. Katawazi added.

He also requested the local people not to allow strangers and insurgents to carry out activities in their areas and extend support to the Government.
