HELMAND: Elimination of violence against women campaign launched

HELMAND - Helmand government launched an elimination of violence against women campaign. The campaign will be carried out through mass media and ulamas who will raise public awareness about women’s rights in order to eliminate violence against women in the society.

“This commission will be able to educate people regarding women’s rights and help eliminate violence against women,” stated the head of Department of Women Affairs (DoWA).

The above issue was discussed in a meeting attended by Government officials, ulamas and women’s rights groups in Helmand province.

Speaking at the meeting, the head of the Helmand ulama shura, Maulwai Khudai Nazar, strongly condemned the violence against women and said that women, by acquiring education, should assist in the peace process by educating their children in an effective manner.

Although, the Government has launched several advocacy programs to eliminate violence against women violence against women has increased recently. The main triggers of violence against women can be poppy cultivation, false traditions and lack of education.
