City cleaning campaign by local volunteers

KHOST - Hundreds of people, including government officials, students and general masses participated yesterday in a traditional campaign called hasher, a voluntary campaign to clean streets and parks in Khost province.

The two-hour campaign that started in Khost city at around 8 am lasted until 10 am and also saw participation of shopkeepers. The municipality used 10 trucks to remove garbage out of the city, Mohammad Sharif, the Deputy Mayor said.

Moreover, Mr Sharif said hashar was needed because population of the city has increased incredibly as compared to the past and urged residents to continue cooperating with the municipality in dumping garbage at specified locations.

Shopkeeper Aminullah Amin said the campaign should be organized regularly, so residents could live in a clean environment and prevent outbreak of many diseases.
