Cases of domestic violence against women on the rise

KHOST - Despite some improvements in reducing incidents of violence against women in Khost province, cases of domestic violence affecting women have increased in the province, officials from the Provincial Women’s Affairs Department said this week.

Khawar Amiri, the Provincial Women Affairs Director, said although incidents of violence against women including forced marriage, murder, self-immolation, dispute-settling mechanism and divorce have decreased, beating and torture by husband family and not properly feeding can create problems to women in future.

Ms Amiri accused that the central Government, women rights activists and the international community have done very little and have always shown indifference towards women’s issues in the Khost province.

Moreover, Ms. Amiri asked tribal elders, clerics and civil society representatives to assist them in eliminating violence against women.
