BAMYAN: Governor says national police, not the local police, should be supported

BAMYAN - Habiba Sarabi, the Governor of Bamyan province, said that the Government of Afghanistan and the International Community should support and equip the Afghan security forces prior to the withdrawal of the international forces.

Ms. Sarabi added that recruiting more Arbakis (Afghan Local Police) and distribution of weapons to civilians is not in the interest of Afghanistan and this can cause civil war in Afghanistan after withdrawal of international forces.

“Arbaki force is like to bring back the illegal armed groups, so they start another civil war and destruct the democratic system,” said the only female governor in Afghanistan.

She added that international community should help Government of Afghanistan to equip a strong Afghan security force instead of arming militia groups.
