  • 26 Jun 2014 - KABUL - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) is deeply concerned about the rising number of civilian deaths and injuries in ongoing military operations in the southern Afghan province of Helmand. Armed clashes between the Taliban and Afghanistan National Security Forces have been taking place since 21 June in the province’s Sangin, Musa Qala, Naw Zad and Kajaki districts, with the majority of fighting concentrated in Sangin.

  • 21 Jun 2014 - KABUL - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) strongly condemns today’s targeted attack on government minister and the Head of the Secretariat of the country’s High Peace Council, Masoom Stanekzai. A suicide bomber reportedly detonated his explosives near Minister Stankezai’s passing motorcade in the capital, Kabul. The minister was not injured in the attack which caused the death of one civilian and injured several others.
