Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) new building inaugurated in Ghor

GHOR - The new building for Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) in Ghor province was officially launched today. The building is a two-story facility with 14.45 x 12.3 meter area on each floor with a total floor space of 356 square meters and would accommodate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

This project which was funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by UNOPS in Afghanistan, provides the building with some office equipment’s such as generator, furniture, computers Codan-base communication system, Internet equipment and also to satisfy ANDMA Ghor’s transportation needs, three off-road motorbikes, and one off-road Toyota Hilux vehicle were purchased for this new office.

“We were facing a lot of problems. The ANDMA office its self was facing challenges with natural disaster as we were in rented muddy houses and all the staff were located in one room. Once, our whole documents were destroyed, due to a heavy raining.” The Head of ANDMA department in Ghor Province, Mr. Hamid Dadfar said that.

“The ANDMA Ghor personnel have laptop computers but before it used to be only one desktop in the whole department. We are thankful to Japan government and the UNOPS in Afghanistan for this great support.” The Head of ANDMA Ghor said that.

The newly furnished building will enable ANDMA Ghor to work in normal conditions and will be able to increase the ANDMA presence in the province and improve their performance.

This is the second new building within six months which has been built by UNOPS for ANDMA. Recently, in December 2011, a newly constructed building was built by UNOPS for ANDMA in Herat Province.

The Government of Japan has been supporting to promote peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan since 2001 through projects such as in infrastructure, agriculture and education.

Afghanistan Operations Center (AGOC) of UNOPS is responsible to support the government of Afghanistan in establishing long-term and durable progress in development through concerted action aimed at infrastructure, construction, providing procurement services and Enhancing Disaster Management and Preparedness in the country.
