UNAMA welcomes government announcement to investigate allegations of human rights abuses against politician

KABUL - The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) welcomes the Afghan Government’s commitment to investigate the alleged human rights violations committed against the politician, Mr. Ahmad Ishchi.

Mr. Ishchi reports he was illegally detained and severely maltreated by security officials acting under the authority of the First Vice President, Abdul Rashid Dostum.

UNAMA is concerned about these allegations, stresses the importance of due process and accountability, and remains committed to working with the Government and people of Afghanistan in their efforts to strengthen respect for human rights and the rule of law.
