UNAMA condemns attack against government officials in Kandahar


KABUL - The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemns yesterday’s attack against government officials in Kandahar.
The timing of the attack, less than 48 hours before the parliamentary elections, has contributed to a feeling of uncertainty and insecurity at a moment when many Afghan citizens were preparing to exercise their constitutional right to elect their representatives.


UNAMA takes note of the Government’s decision to postpone the parliamentary elections in Kandahar for one week, and will continue to work will all relevant institutions to ensure that the people of Kandahar can elect their representatives in accordance with their rights under the Constitution.
UNAMA is encouraged by the steps taken by the Government to ensure continued stability and functions of Government in Kandahar under these tragic and difficult circumstances.

UNAMA expresses it deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who were affected, and a speedy recovery to those injured.
