KABUL- As we celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr around the world after a month of fasting and worship, I wish all Afghans Eid Mubarak on behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan.

To allow all Afghans to commemorate this auspicious and important celebration, I strongly urge all parties to the conflict to stop violence and to respect this time of reflection and tolerance so that everybody in Afghanistan can enjoy Eid peacefully.

I sincerely hope the sense of solidarity marked by this occasion will continue well into the future, allowing for the peace that all Afghans want and deserve.

The United Nations continues to stand with the people of Afghanistan in their quest for stability and prosperity.
