HELMAND: Peace process continues successfully in Helmand

HELMAND - The peace and reconciliation process is proceeding successfully in Helmand province and hundreds of insurgents have joined the peace process and several reconstruction projects implemented through APRP, said the Members of Helmand peace committee in a meeting with Helmand Governor.

“With the help of local elders and Government officials, around 141 insurgents and political prisoners have joined the peace process in Helmand province during the ongoing year. Several reconstruction projects have been implemented through APRP in Nadali, Marja and Sangin districts and hundreds of other insurgents have laid down their weapons and joined the peace and are now living a normal life”, stated Malim Shah Wali, the head of provincial peace committee of Helmand province.

Although, the peace committee has made significant progress, we still need the support of the local Government to implement projects in Northern districts of Helmand province, added Malim Shah Wali.

The Helmand Governor, Al-Haj Mohammad Naim called upon insurgents to join the peace process and contribute in the rebuilding of their country like other citizens of Afghanistan.

Progress has been made in the peace and reconciliation process and several insurgents have joined the process. The Governor’s office is trying to explore markets for agriculture products and other products in order to provide job opportunities to the local residents.
