United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrives in Afghanistan

20 July 2010 - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Kabul today to attend the International Conference on Afghanistan to be held on 20 July.

 

The Conference is another important step in furthering the transition to Afghan lead and responsibility. The Government of Afghanistan will present its priorities and programmes aimed at improving security, governance, development and the delivery of services to Afghan citizens.

The conference will be opened by H.E. President Hamid Karzai, the UN Secretary-General, and co-chaired by the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura, and the Minister of Finance of the Government of Afghanistan, Dr Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal.

Delegations from more than 70 countries and international organisations are expected to attend the event.
