Justice and human rights in Sharia law focus of conferences in the north

25 May 2011 - The Sharia Faculty of Takhar University in northern Afghanistan is today holding a conference on the Sharia law, the Afghan Constitution and human rights. The conference comes one day after a similar event was organized at Kunduz University with support from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

 

Around three hundred Kunduz law faculty students and professors and governmental officials attended.

“Implementation of justice brings prosperity and welfare to human society,” said the Dean of Kunduz Univeristy, Abdul Qudoos Zarifi.

Concepts of justice in the Islam religion and in Afghan Constitution and principles of Islamic and civil criminal rights were the main topics of discussion.

“Justice is a human need at all levels, it is difficult to live without justice,” said the former Chief Supreme Court Justice, Murad Ali Murad.

“Implementation of justice helps rule of law, peace and security in a society, therefore it should be on focus of the governments,” he added.

The conference ended with a question and answer session between the panelists and university students.

“The rule of law in a society is for the benefit of the public, and paves the way for reaching individual rights,” said Ibni Sena University Law Faculty professor,Ghulam Haider Alama.
