Insecurity, social constraints impede women’s businesses

GHAZNI - Despite tremendous eagerness of women in businesses, social constraints and insecurity are severely impeding the opportunities for women in Ghazni province.

A women rights activist, Amina Spogmai said that despite remarkable improvement over the past 12 years, women representation particularly in business is very dim due to the irresponsiveness of relevant institutions.

She added that large number of women had the capacity to develop businesses but insecurity and social constraints debar them.

Ms. Spogmai asked Afghan Government to find durable solution for their problems and facilitate their access to profit-making activities.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Governor of Ghazni, Mosa Khan Akbarzada, said that they have done much with the assistance of Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) for the capacity building of women especially in trade related activities.

In addition, a special bazaar has been initiated in Ghazni City where women can start business activities with coordination of Directorate of Women Affairs (DoWA).

The Coordination Officer of DoWA, Khadija Gauhari, said that they have opened Wednesday bazaar with assistance of Chamber of Commerce where women can display handicrafts without any difficulty.
