HELMAND: Quick reaction force formed in Marjah

HELMAND - According to the District Governor and Chief of Police of Marjah district in Helmand province, local residents expressed concerns that the situation in the district would deteriorate after 2014 and become the hub of terrorism and narcotics business.

Following the concerns and a recommendation from the local residents, a quick reaction force had just been formed in the district on Saturday to respond to any emergency situation and security threats, local officials said.

“The security situation has improved after the formation of the Afghan Local Police which play a crucial role to counter insurgency and narcotics trade in the district. It is also important that we should have a quick reaction force as well and that is why we are now able to form the force consisting of 381 personnel,” said the District Governor of Marjah, Habibullah Shamalani.

The quick reaction force will respond to challenging situations, counter terrorism and maintain law and order in the district.
