BALKH: Sixteen militants join peace process

BALKH - Sixteen insurgents including their commander joined the Government initiated peace and reconciliation process in northern Balkh province yesterday.

According to the official sources, the group led by Khan Gul, alias Haji Mir, the Taliban shadow District Governor for Dehdadi District, handed over their weapons to the security officials in the in the presence of the Chief of Provincial Council, Akhtar Mohammad Ibrahimkhil.

This group has been fighting against government for the last five years and finally gave up their battle.

“Recently, I realized that we are killing innocent people in an unjust war, so we abandoned fighting,” said Mr. Gul.
