  • 01 Aug 2017 - NEW YORK - The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack against the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kabul, Afghanistan, on 31 July, 2017, which resulted in the death of two Afghan civilian employees inside the Embassy and the injury of a police officer, for which local affiliates of Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh) have claimed responsibility.
  • 31 Jul 2017 - KABUL - The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemns today’s suicide attack against the embassy of Iraq in Kabul. The attack, which occurred in a residential area of central Kabul, lasted around five hours and involved several armed men who killed two Afghan civilian employees inside the embassy and injured a police officer before being killed by Afghan security forces. Islamic State-Khorasan Province claimed responsibility.
  • 24 Jul 2017 - NEW YORK - The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack that took place in Kabul on 24 July 2017, which resulted in more than 70 people killed or injured, for which the Taliban has claimed responsibility. They expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Afghanistan and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

The deliberate targeting of civilians constitutes a grave violation of human rights and international humanitarian law and may constitute a war crime.The Secretary-General expresses his deepest sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
  • 24 Jul 2017 - KABUL - The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemns today’s deadly Kabul suicide attack, which has occurred in the context of a countrywide intensification of violence impacting civilians. This morning’s attack comes amid commemorations of the 23 July 2016 Dehmazang square attack, which killed and injured hundreds of demonstrators who were exercising their right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression.
