19 Aug 2009 - 18 August 2009 - The Secretary-General is deeply distressed by the news that two Afghan UN staff members were killed, and a third injured, in a suicide attack in Kabul earlier today, which reportedly killed seven people and wounded many more. The Secretary-General offers his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and his best wishes for a rapid recovery to those who were injured.

18 Aug 2009 - 15 August 2009 - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has strongly condemned Saturday morning's suicide car bombing in central Kabul that has reportedly killed at least seven people and injured dozens of others, days ahead of much anticipated presidential and provincial elections across Afghanistan. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban said he was “deeply concerned at this indiscriminate violence” before the polls, which are scheduled to take place next Thursday.
