It congratulates the Afghan people, candidates, and the country’s electoral and security institutions on this democratic milestone. Millions of Afghan citizens voted with determination in the polls and UNAMA looks forward to equally enthusiastic participation in the second round run-off.
  • 04 May 2014 - NEW YORK - The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the loss of life in Afghanistan as a result of the landslide in Badakhshan Province on 2 May. The Secretary-General extends his sincere condolences to the people and Government of Afghanistan, especially those who have lost family members, friends, homes and livelihoods in this disaster.
  • 02 May 2014 - Kabul - A series of heavy rain induced landslides struck in the Argo district of Badakhshan in northeastern Afghanistan causing significant loss of life and widespread damage to homes and agriculture. Provincial authorities report that more than 350 Afghans have been killed, more are still missing and many families have been displaced.
  • 02 May 2014 - KABUL - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemns the suicide car bombing which took place in the central eastern province of Panjshir yesterday, killing at least 15 people – including seven civilians. As well, more than a dozen people were injured, including civilians, with casualties expected to rise in the coming days.
