  • 10 Jul 2013 - KABUL - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) strongly condemns the killing by a roadside bomb of at least 18 civilians – including eight women, eight children and two men – in the Obeh district of the western province of Herat. The explosion also seriously wounded six children. The incident took place on Tuesday, 9 July, following an armed clash between Afghan security forces and anti-government elements.

  • 13 Jun 2013 - NEW YORK - The Secretary-General [Ban Ki-moon] condemns the suicide attack that took place on 11 June in Kabul on civilian government workers in the environs of the Supreme Court building. The attack, for which the Taliban claimed responsibility, was timed and located to maximise civilian casualties and killed at least 17 civilians, wounding some 40 more.
  • 13 Jun 2013 - WASHINGTON - The World Bank today approved an additional grant of US$12.5 million from the International Development Association (IDA), its concessional lending arm, to finance the continuation of a project to provide safety nets to the country’s poorest people and improve the public pension schemes.
