UN envoy Lyons briefing the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan

KABUL - The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, today briefed the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.

Lyons highlighted key developments around peace, urgent need to reduce the levels of violence, journalist safety, combating corruption, the humanitarian situation and other pressing issues. The envoy, who is also head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reiterated the need for an inclusive peace process in which all Afghans, especially young people, have their say.
