KABUL - United Nations envoy Nicholas Haysom and Afghan Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi held a press conference with several ministers and key government officials to present the outcomes of the recent Senior Officials Meeting (SOM).

The SOM brought together more than 60 governments, international agencies and others with the Afghan authorities to review the country’s progress toward realizing self-reliance.

“My own assessment of the conference is that it was a success,” said Mr. Haysom, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, noting that the meeting saw an inclusive exchange between members of the international community and the Afghan government.

“That gave the international community an opportunity to see that there is, in existence, a government actively engaged in the process of implementing a comprehensive vision of reform,” said the UN envoy, who is also head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
