Senior Officials Meeting in Kabul

KABUL - Delegates from key donor states and organizations met in Kabul today at a high-level meeting to review Afghanistan’s reform vision and progress towards realizing self-reliance.

Nicholas Haysom, the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), described the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) as a “vital part of the bridge between past commitments, and future pledges renewing those commitments to demonstrate not only Afghanistan’s needs for on-going support, but to inspire confidence in those that have promised to walk with Afghanistan as it takes on its difficult challenges.”

UNAMA co-hosted the event with the Afghan authorities.

Speaking at a joint-press conference at the meeting’s conclusion, Mr. Haysom, who is also Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, and Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, the Afghan Finance Minister, characterized the event as an important meeting between international donors and the Afghan Government that relates directly towards the larger task of meeting the aspirations of ordinary Afghans.
