UN envoy Yamamoto at Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan

NEW YORK - The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto, today briefed the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.

Yamamoto highlighted key developments on peace, security, human rights and other issues. The envoy, who is also head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reiterated the need for a political solution to the conflict with the enhanced engagement of regional states to support an Afghan-led process.
