KABUL - UNAMA has confirmed that at least 10 civilians were killed, most of them children, and nine people injured in airstrikes carried out in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Helmand provinces earlier today.
Civilians continue to be affected by cross-border hostilities. Just a week ago, on September 21, UNAMA confirmed the killing of at least three civilians with four others injured in another airstrike in Kunar province.
So far in 2026, UNAMA has documented over 1,100 civilian deaths and injuries in Afghanistan from cross-border armed violence.
UNAMA reiterates its call for de-escalation, dialogue, respect for international law and prevention of further civilian harm.
