UN Deputy Special Representative Lemarquis arrives in Kabul

DSRSG Lemarquis

Mr. Bruno Lemarquis assumed his functions as Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (DSRSG/RC/HC) in Afghanistan on Tuesday 16 June 2026.

Mr. Lemarquis has held several leadership positions within the United Nations System, most recently as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with MONUSCO, from 2022 till 2026. Previously, he was DSRSG in the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti (2020-2021).

Mr. Lemarquis also served as Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Crisis Bureau, and held various positions in UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery.

He served in several field assignments with UNDP, including in Somalia, Haiti, the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Cambodia. Prior to joining the United Nations in 1992, he worked for an international non-governmental organization in Haiti and Ethiopia.

Mr. Lemarquis holds an engineering degree in tropical agriculture from the Centre National d’Etudes des Régions Chaudes, Montpellier, France. In addition to his native French, he is fluent in English.
