UNAMA Statement on the bombing in Khairo Kariz

KABUL - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA) strongly condemns the deliberate bombing of the mosque in the village of Khairo Kariz in Uruzgan province that took place yesterday, which killed Imam Maulawi Taj Mohammad and injured four others.

The bombing took place during the holy month of Ramadan, as people were leaving the mosque after the Morning Prayer.
UNAMA once again calls upon Anti-Government Elements to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law, which explicitly prohibits acts of hostility directed against civilians and places of worship. UNAMA calls for those responsible to be brought to justice.

UNAMA presents its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims of this incident and wishes a speedy recovery of those injured.
