UN convenes working group meetings on counter-narcotics, private sector

DOHA - Meetings of Working Groups on Afghanistan’s private sector and counter-narcotics, convened by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), opened in Doha, Qatar on Monday.

The technical Working Groups were established as a follow-up to the third Meeting of Special Envoys held in Doha, Qatar last July, in line with recommendations of the Independent Assessment submitted to the Security Council (S/2023/856) and as part of a more coherent, coordinated and structured engagement process with Afghanistan’s de facto authorities for the benefit of the Afghan people.

The two days of meetings highlight the work undertaken so far in support of the private sector and counter-narcotics and identify further priorities for engagement. They gather representatives of Member States and international organizations, representatives of Afghanistan’s de facto authorities, and the United Nations, with subject matter experts.
