Competitive tests for appointing members of electronic identity cards registration teams

KABUL - As part of the Afghan Government's plan to distribute electronic identity cards to the Afghan citizens, the Ministry of Interior is currently recruiting personnel to be deployed in 401 registration teams throughout the country.

The job applicants are currently undergoing a competitive written examination to determine their eligibility for the job.

In the first phase of recruitment, 5507 applicants including 340 females submitted their applications for the written examinations in Kabul, out of which 4927 took part in the examinations.

Initially, a total of 550 successful applicants will be selected for the job and deployed in 50 teams in Kabul. They include 50 team leaders, 100 senior officers, 200 registration officers and 200 social workers.

Officials from Lower House of the Parliament (Wolesi Jirga), Attorney General’s Office, National Directorate of Anti-Corruption, General Directorate of National Security, National Directorate of General Intelligence, Directorate of Anti-Terrorism, Directorate of Human Resources, Directorate of General Registration and Population, General Directorate of Anti-Crime and Police Academy supervised the process of examinations in Kabul to ensure transparency and impartiality.

“The registration of Afghan nationals for electronic identity cards is expected to start in February 2013,”said Abdul Ghaffar Masoom Farhad, In-charge electronic identity cards at Ministry of Interior.

Similar examinations will also take place in the provinces to appoint the members of the remaining teams. These teams will be imparted all necessary training on the process of registering electronic identity cards.

In February 2010, the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology had signed a 101 million dollar contract with a foreign company, Grand Technology Resources (GTR) to set up the required system for distribution of the electronic identity cards. The agreement includes establishment of data centers and identity card printing centers.

The Ministry of Interior holds the responsibility to collect all the information from the Afghan nationals for issuance of the electronic national identity cards.
