6 September 2013 - The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 67/16 and Security Council resolution 2096 (2013), in which the Council requested the Secretary-General to report on developments in Afghanistan every three months. The report provides an update on the activities of the United Nations in Afghanistan, including significant humanitarian, development and human rights efforts, since his previous report of 13 June 2013 (A/67/889-S/2013/350). Briefing by Special Representative Ján Kubiš to the Security Council

20 June 2013 – In his briefing to the UN Security Council today, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ján Kubiš, hoped that “the current controversies and legitimate concerns” around the Taliban office in Doha would soon be resolved thus opening the way for “direct peace and reconciliation discussions between the High Peace Council and the Taliban”. He also hoped that this will lead to a reduction of civilian casualties in the country.
