NEW YORK - The United Nations will remain a steadfast supporter of the people of Afghanistan, said UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson to Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN.

Mr. Eliasson reiterated the world body’s support to Afghanistan in a meeting on 25 February with Ambassador Mahmoud Saikal. Among many pressing issues, the two discussed the country’s security challenges, regional dynamics, political stability and electoral reform.
