GHAZNI: Renovation of 12 historical monuments begins

GHAZNI - The Ministry of Information and Culture Affairs inaugurated reconstruction work of more than 12 historical monuments in Ghazni City, the capital of Ghazni province.

During his visit to the Ghazni province, Deputy Information and Culture Affairs Minister Ghulam Nabi Farahi, inaugurated the rebuilding process as part of preparatory work ahead of 2013 when the city is to serve as the Asian capital of the Islamic civilization.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mr Farahi said that the renovation was estimated to cost US$ 11 million and will be provided by the Ministry, which is also planning to complete other reconstruction projects by 2013.

He said that the shrines of Hakim Sanae and Alberoni will also be rehabilitated in the future.

Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada said work on 40 projects would be launched once the Ministry of Defence shifted the Afghan National Army’s 203rd Thunder Military Corps Brigade to another location.

Ghazni City was selected to serve as the capital next year by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) at a conference held in Tripoli, Libya, in 2007.
