Photo Exhibition: The UN & Afghanistan: A Partnership for the future
On the 80th anniversary of the United Nations we showcase the history and work of the UN in Afghanistan, which joined the Organization in 1946. This photo exhibition contains a selection of images from the UN archives, UNAMA and UN agencies funds and programmes working in Afghanistan.
UN support to Afghanistan began in 1954 with a rural development project in two villages, expanded in 1960 to 400 villages and to areas like public health, agroindustry, education and culture. There are currently 24 UN agencies, funds and programmes and one Special Political Mission working in Afghanistan. They work in an integrated way to support the people of Afghanistan in their path to recovery and sustainable development.
