NURISTAN: Kidnapped doctors released

NURISTAN - Three doctors were released on Wednesday, a day after they were taken hostage by unidentified kidnappers in eastern Nuristan province, an official said.

The doctors, who had come from Kabul, were abducted when they were travelling between Do Aab and Noorgram districts of the remote province, the governor’s spokesman said.

The doctors were visiting the insecure area to inspect clinics and health centres there, without informing security personnel. They were rescued as a result of a police operation.

Taliban denied involvement in abducting the doctors, with the group's spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid saying the trio had been kidnapped by robbers. The militants were also trying for their rescue, he added.
