HERAT: 59 public service projects completed

HERAT - Officials from the Department of Rural Development and Rehabilitation in the western Herat province reported yesterday of the opening of 59 public services projects in Pashtoon Zarqoon district of the province.

The projects, which are expected to benefit 6,000 families, include building of public bath, social centres, retaining walls, road gravelling, bridges, and culverts, according to Mohammad Sediqi, the Head of the Department.

Mr. Sediqi said that the total project cost was 69 million AFN (about US$ 1.38 million), with about 10 per cent contribution coming from the local population under the National Solidarity Programme.

Mr. Sediqi also added that almost 500 public service projects had been launched in Herat by the Department since the beginning of the Afghan solar year (March 2012).
